Google goes cheap, offering $149 Chromebook

Google continues Chrome onslaught and launches devices for budget conscious customers.

Google has introduced a range of new Chrome devices targeted towards the more budget conscious customer.

The new Chromebooks includes Haier Chromebook 11 and Hisense Chromebook, with pre-orders priced at just $149, makingthe devices the cheapest Chromebooks by the search giant.

Both the devices will be powered by quad-core ARM processors, manufactured by Chinese semiconductor company Rockchip, and will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage.

The devices also feature two USB 2.0 ports, a MicroSD card slot, and one HDMI port.

The 11.6" Chromebooks will be sold for $199 and the 15" Chromebooks will be retailed for $499.

Google highlighted that it has collaborated with OEM partners including Acer, AOPEN, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and LG to bring the low cost Chromebooks to markets.

The company is also introducing a $249 ASUS Chromebook Flip, which the company describes as an all-metal convertible. It is 15mm thin, weighs less than two pounds and features a Rockchip 3288 processor and 16GB of storage space.

The tech titan also announced a new type of Chrome device by ASUS, dubbed Chromebit, which will be sold for $100.

The candy bar lookalike device will allow users to plug the device into any display including TV’s to turn it into a computer.
