Google gets new UK chief

Google has appointed a new managing director of its UK advertising sales operation.

Eileen Naughton, who is currently an executive with Google in New York, will replace outgoing Dan Cobley. Cobley was in charge of the ad sales arm for two and a half years and will now be taking up a broader position across Google EMEA dealing with major brand marketing.

Naughton, an American, will take the lead of Google’s sales, including selling the advertising that appears on Google search results.

Before working at Google, Naughton was a president at Time Mazgazine.

On news of her apppintment, Naughton said: "The UK is Google’s biggest market outside the US, and is a sophisticated digital marketplace that is home to an increasingly vibrant tech scene."

She was a founding member of the female Google executives network, alongside Sheryl Sandberg. Sandberg later went on to become chief operating officer of Facebook.
