Google has denied having any plans to launch a movie rental service in Europe that was based on YouTube.

A YouTube spokesperson has told the Paidcontent that the company had no plans for a European movie rentals service.

The spokesperson said, "Today, YouTube is focused on building out and improving its current US-based rental offering. While we aim to always push all of our products out globally to our community, we have no plans to launch a European rentals service in the near future."

There were reports last week that suggested that Google had plans of launching a movie rental service first in the UK and then expand to the other European countries.

The reports said Google owned YouTube was in talks with Hollywood studios regarding the launch of its streaming service.

YouTube has already launched movie rentals in the US last year.

Recently, e-commerce company Amazon had announced the launch of Amazon Instant Video, a free video on demand service last week and the acquisition of Lovefilm which is a DVD rentals business in the UK.
