Good Technology TEEs off on Android EMM security

Google's OS is increasingly prominent in enterprise mobility strategies.

By Alexander Sword

Good Technology has announced its Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and secure key storage solutions.

The Good TEE solution, based on a standard being adopted in Android handset manufacturing, enables hardware key protection for higher security, as well as greater ease of use.

Partnering with cybersecurity company Intercede, the enterprise mobility management provider is now adding hardware-backed security to all Good-secured applications on Android. These include Good-produced apps and customer apps developed on the Good Dynamics Secure Mobility Platform.

TEE will provide a single solution for Android-based devices, preventing container keys from being extracted even if the device is rooted, while the user’s PIN is protected from interception.

The solution targets the financial services, government and healthcare markets particularly, with trials beginning in May 2015.

Android represents a growing share of devices deployed as part of an enterprise mobility strategy. Major manufacturers of Android devices such as Samsung are focusing increasingly on optimising their devices for the enterprise.

"Security and usability don’t have to be a zero-sum game," said Dr. Nicko van Someren, CTO of Good Technology. "With the Good Trusted Execution Environment IT can ease end user requirements, such as allowing much shorter and more memorable PIN codes, without lessening security of corporate data."
