Leading Spanish software house Centro de Calculo de Sabadell SA, has invested about $9m over the past two years in overseas expansion. It now has the highest international profile of any Spanish company – director general Jose Antonio Diaz Salanova believes that companies must think internationally to survive. In his opinion, few purely national firms will make ends meet over the next few years, no matter how good their products are. The group has a 60% stake in Portugese firm Consultorie e Comercializacoa de Software, and a 25% holding in the British-Irish McKeown Group. It has also taken a 70% stake in Dutch management software company, Digis, and French AS/400 financial management software house, SCOD. Digis’s software is aimed at medium and large-sized firms. The company has 27 employees and an estimated turnover of $3.9m in 1992. SCOD formerly belonged to the Steria Group, has 61 staff, and made $6.3m-worth of sales in 1992. Salanova said that Centro de Calculo’s 1992 revenues were below expectations, with growth of only 2%, but said that management restructuring would take effect from this month.
