Global WLAN market reports 13.9% rise during first quarter of 2012: IDC

Worldwide WLAN market declined 2.9% when compared to the earlier quarter

The global market for the joint consumer and enterprise wireless local area network (WLAN) segment reported 13.9% rise during the first quarter of 2012 (1Q12), while declined 2.9% quarter over quarter, according to new report from International Data (IDC).

IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly WLAN Tracker revealed that the market for enterprise WLAN segment increased 27.2% during the quarter when compared to the first quarter of 2011.

IDC Enterprise Communications Infrastructure director Rohit Mehra said the momentum behind bring your own device (BYOD) in the enterprise continues unabated, and is the single largest factor driving enterprise mobility and WLAN market growth.

"Along with the increasing use of Wi-Fi by service providers to offload cellular data traffic, current market drivers in key verticals will ensure the market for enterprise-class WLAN devices and solutions will see continued traction, and that the market is expected to stay vibrant for the foreseeable future," Mehra said.

During the period, Latin America reported highest rise of 73.8% in enterprise WLAN market, followed by 34.5% risein North America,Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) with 19.7% rise and Asia/Pacific reported 16.4% rise, when compared to the corresponding period in 2011.

Cisco reported 27.0% rise in global enterprise WLAN revenue to $414m in the quarter, HP’s enterprise WLAN revenue rose 10.0%, Aruba with 42.8% growth, while Ruckus reported the highest rise of 183% over same quarter in 2011.
