Global PC microprocessor revenue grew 12% in Q3: IDC

Intel was the market leader in this space with 80.2% overall worldwide unit market share

Worldwide PC microprocessor revenues grew 12.2% to $10.7b in the third quarter of 2011, compared to the same quarter previous year, according to new study from International Data Corporation (IDC).

The latest PC microprocessor market share study said that the PC microprocessor market experienced a growth of 5.2% in the third quarter 2011 compared to previuos year’s same quarter.

IDC Semiconductors: Personal Computing research director Shane Rau said the average selling price (ASP) that OEMs pay for PC microprocessors rose more than 5% in Q3 2011 and it was the eighth quarter in a row that ASPs rose.

The IDC report said indicated microprocessors with integrated graphics processors (IGP) rose to 73% of total PC processor unit volume in the third quarter of 2011.

In the 2011 third quarter, Intel was the market leader in this space with 80.2% overall worldwide unit market share, followed by AMD with 19.7% sahre and VIA Technologies with 0.1%.

In the third quarter, Intel also led the PC server/workstation processor segment with 95.1% market share, followed by AMD with 4.9%.

The IDC study further revealed that Intel had a majority share in the desktop PC processor segment with a market share of 75.8%, followed by AMD with 24.1% market share.
