Glasgow Uni gets FoI help with Hornbill

Recording and management of requests covered

By Steve Evans

The University of Glasgow has extended its service management deal with Hornbill Systems to cover the recording and managing of Freedom of Information (FoI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests.

A recent report by the Office of the Scottish Information Commissioner commended the University for its culture and practice with regard to its obligations under FoI and EIR rules.

Hornbill’s Supportworks IT helpdesk software will provide a central logging and managing platform for all requests for information received by the University’s Data Protection and Freedom of Information Office, the firm said.

Once a request is received it is assigned a unique reference number and all members of the department have access to the system, which should ensure that all new requests are correctly monitored.

The University is already using Supportworks for IT service management for over 30,000 students and staff and it is using an adapted version of the software for this project.

The University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world, having been founded in 1451. Its former students include acclaimed economist Adam Smith.

Hornbill’s software platforms cover ITIL-compatible IT Service Management, IT helpdesk, customer service, HR and facilities management. Its clients include House of Fraser, Halfords, Camelot and Atos Origin.
