Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd has acquired satellite services operator Skydata Inc in an exchange of shares and expects to take hits of $2m for the cost of the deal and $4m for consequent restructuring. The major investors and marketing partners of Skydata are South Korea’s Samsung Co and Matra Marconi Space France SA which now become shareholders of Tel Aviv-based Gilat. Skydata, based in Melbourne, Florida, specializes in providing Frame Relay fast packet-switching services over satellite networks. Gilat says it aims to use the Florida location as a springboard to Latin America.
