GILAT SATELLITE NETWORKS ACQUIRES SKYDATA

By CBR Staff Writer

Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd has acquired satellite services operator Skydata Inc in an exchange of shares and expects to take hits of $2m for the cost of the deal and $4m for consequent restructuring. The major investors and marketing partners of Skydata are South Korea’s Samsung Co and Matra Marconi Space France SA which now become shareholders of Tel Aviv-based Gilat. Skydata, based in Melbourne, Florida, specializes in providing Frame Relay fast packet-switching services over satellite networks. Gilat says it aims to use the Florida location as a springboard to Latin America.
