GIGANET SNAGS INDUSTRY VETERAN FOR START-UP

By CBR Staff Writer

GigaNet Inc, the emerging clustering interconnect company from Concord, Massachusetts, has hired a new president, as it gears itself up for what it hopes will be incredible growth. Veteran technologist Cornelius Ferris joins company founder, chairman and CEO David Follett as part of the firm’s top management. Ferris, one of the founding team of Apollo Computer Inc (acquired by Hewlett-Packard Co), later went on to Data General Corp, and more recently was CEO of two firms subsequently acquired by larger outfits: multimedia software company Fluent Inc, acquired by Novell Inc, and web database access outfit NetScheme Solutions Inc, acquired by San Mateo, California-based Actuate Software Corp at the end of last year (CI No 3,245). GigaNet launched its expected Cluster LAN switch for NT server clustering this week (CI No 3,491), and has been demonstrating VI-Architecture compliant cLAN clustering at the Intel Developers Forum in Palm Springs, California in conjunction with IBM Corp, Informix Corp, Vinca Corp and Starksville, Missouri-based message passing middleware MPI Software Technology Inc.
