GigaNet Inc was showing off its cLAN cluster LAN internet clustering technology at the NetWorld+Interop show yesterday, connecting up four of IBM Corp’s Netfinity servers running the extended edition of IBM’s DB2 Universal Database Enterprise software. GigaNet emerged from obscurity earlier this year, claiming it had developed the first native implementation of a Virtual Interface Architecture interconnect to reach the market (CI No 3,384). In its guise as a parallel systems software developer, IBM is keeping its options open – it is also a member of the newly formed CluStar group supporting Dolphin Interconnect Solutions Inc’s alternative cluster interconnect technology (see Top Stories).
