There’s no hiding place at IBM Corp’s new corporate headquarters at Armonk, New York. It’s a state of the art Z-shaped building designed to reflect the management’s new philosophy. Gone are the cloistered, closed offices of the old HQ – now most of the 600 people work in cubicles in expansive spaces with as few walls or doors as possible. Company chairman Louis Gerstner is right in the central wing of the Z – so any under-performing employee knows that a journey through the building carries the risk of being hauled into Lou’s cubicle for a blasting.
