Maxdata Computer GmbH, the Marl, Germany-based computer distributor and personal computer assembler, which has 12% of the monitor market in Germany with its Belinea brand, last week purchased its much larger rivals, the troubled Peacock AG and Peacock Systeme GmbH, for an undisclosed sum. Peacock, a broad- based distributor with its own brand of personal comnputers, had a revenue equivalent to 945m in 1996, but has been struggling to return to profit after heavy losses in recent years. It will continue to operate independently. Maxdata, a privately-held $397m firm, is 51% owned by Vobis Microcomputer AG, with the rest owned by the company’s founder Holger Lampatz. Synergies between the combined firms are looked for in the areas of purchasing and production.
