After a false start in the Netherlands, German systems integrator Garmhausen und Partner is ready to take on the Benelux market again with a new Brussels-based division that opened for business on January 1. The division will initially cover Belgium and Luxemburg, where, according to Garmhausen in Bonn, it has received authorisation to use Santa Cruz Unix, Informix and Uniplex products within added value projects. Garmhausen, which had $22m turnover in 1990, has been looking at expansion into other markets for some time now, and before deciding to start off its own bat was strongly believed to be on the point of making an offer for Metrologie SA’s Toplog International, of which Toplog Belgium is part. Meanwhile, a short-lived Netherlands office set up last year made no impact: the manager there made mistakes, comments Garmhausen bluntly, he was sacked and the venture ended there. The Benelux arm will follow the main office’s approach to the market, says de Lange, by getting much of its revenues from service: apart from actual installation, the focus is on software re-engineering, project management and consultancy.
