GERMAN CARTEL OFFICE VETOES IBM-BERTELSMANN CD-ROM FIRM

In a decision mirroring that of the UK to bar a IBM-British Telecom value-added network services venture in 1985, the West German Cartel Office has forbidden IBM Deutschland to enter a compact disk database venture with local publishing and records giant Bertelsmann AG. The 50-50 venture was blocked because Bertelsmann already holds 43% of the $2m West German CD-ROM market.
