Allscripts said its platform will enable physicians to automate critical tasks, cut costs and enhance the quality and efficiency of care. It also offers enhanced patient safety measures such as automated medical practice guidelines and alerts that warn physicians of potentially dangerous drug interactions.

The medical group began implementing the Electronic Health Record (EHR) by converting its existing patient medical charts into digital format in the hope of simplifying physician tasks by providing instant access to patient’s medical records.

Admissions to the hospital have become remarkably streamlined with the complete clinical record at our fingertips, commented Paul Bradley, MD, who is leading the implementation at St. Joseph’s/Candler Medical Group (SJCMG). This will enable us to connect the physicians in the community to manage clinical information and healthcare delivery across the continuum of care.

SJCMG intends to integrate TouchWorks with its existing Groupcast practice management program from IDX Systems Corporation. The integration of TouchWorks and Groupcast, backed by a 10-year strategic relationship between the two companies, is expected to directly link clinical and financial activities and drive operational improvements.

SJCMG plans to eventually offer the EHR to other physician groups in the Savannah area.
