GEOCITIES LICENSES MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY FROM PARABLE

By CBR Staff Writer

Like rival Xoom (CI No 3,521), GeoCities Inc has licensed Parable’s multimedia ‘Thing’ technology for use by GeoCities members. The web community company gets a right-to- distribute license to Parable’s authoring tool, ThingMaker Personal Edition (TMPE), plus a similar license to the Thing File Format, inclusion of GeoCities ‘homesteaders’ in the ThingSearch database and technology integration with GeoBuilder. Apparently TMPE can be used to create animated logos, scenes, interactive puzzles and games. Parable says the agreement means that copyrighted materials, trademarks, logos, video and audio clips can be used on GeoCities without risk of alteration or illegal use. GeoCities hopes this will make its site attractive to marketers.
