By CBR Staff Writer

Genoa Systems Corp is marking its strategic shift into the emerging consumer information appliance market with the announcement of its Genoa Info-Appliance. The device is a $500 all in one appliance for home, office and vertical markets, including the banking, insurance and education and is introduced as part of its move away from its traditional market of manufacturing graphics accelerators. It is designed to act as a network PC, set top box multimedia system, or a mobile for web surfing, online shopping, email and gaming. It includes an embedded system with hard and floppy drive, CD-ROM, 33.6kbps modem and a PC card slot. The device is controlled by an infrared keyboard and can connect to a monitor, TV or LCD display. Fremont, California based Genoa was established in 1984.
