GENERAL SIGNAL REORGANISES SEMICONDUCTOR COMPANIES

By CBR Staff Writer

General Signal Corp, Stamford, Connecticut is reorganising its semiconductor equipment group companies and activities to enable it to focus on the semiconductor equipment business market segments that are most important to us and ourcustomers: three existing equipment companies – Circuits Processing Apparatus, Tempress and Ionscan will be merged – together with a project now in the developmental stage but not yet publicly identified, into a unit whose focus will be to provide equipment for the thin film market; the three are being separated from General Signal’s Xynetics operation, under which they were previously organised and Ultratech Equipment, a maker of wafer and mask cleaning systems, will also be separated from Xynetics, but will be combined with Semiconductor Systems Inc to complement the latter’sline of spin, bake and develop kit.
