General Parametrics has begun shipping its Spectra*Star 430 20MHz 80960 RISC-based thermal transfer colour printer: this, the third product in the Spectra*Star 400 series, is PostScript-compatible, produces 300dpi resolution, has 6Mb and costs UKP7,000, with a cost per page of UKP1.60 for transparencies; to upgrade from the UKP5,000 Model 420 to the 430 will cost UKP2,100; a new Model 440, with on-board printer spooling and a built-in 30Mb hard disk, will ship in spring, the Model 450, with an attached film recorder to produce 35mm PostScript colour slides, is planned for June.
