General Motors Corp is planning to open a centre for virtual reality technology, demonstrating its business and manufacturing applications. General Motors’ Electronic Data Systems Corp subsidiary will open a virtual reality commercial showroom in Detroit to display the world’s most advanced computer technologies from 30 companies, reports the The Detroit News. The $3m Detroit Virtual Reality Center will be used to demonstrate to business a variety of applications for virtual reality, although it will be closed to the general public. The grand opening is due to take place on March 17. It expects automotive engineers, medical experts, geologists and manufacturers to use the centre to develop virtual reality applications for improving efficiencies and reducing costs.
