Sunnyvale, California-based Magic Cap developer General Magic Inc has announced its entry to the international World Wide Web Consortium with the goal of developing standards for for intelligent agent technologies. The 125-member Web Consortium exists to develop common protocols and reference code for the evolution of the Web. Details of its existing work and future standards can be found at http://www.w3.org/. General Magic is coming to the Web Consortium with its Telescript technology, which is designed to enable users to launch electronic surrogates, called agents, into networks like the Internet and intranets, capable of constantly searching for and monitoring information, as well as interacting with services and other agents. Telesc ript includes an extensible, object-oriented remote programming language for creating active, personalized agent-based network services. The company made its first version of Active Web Tools available free in January, enabling developers to create Telescript-based services on the World Wide Web. Tony Rutkowski, who is vice-president of Internet business development at General Magic will be the Web Consortium representative.
