General Instrument Corp is going for a drastic slimming, and as well as seeking to sell its semiconductor operations as it announced it would a year ago, it now plans to sell its optoelectronics business, and its holdings in broadband local area network specialist Sytek Inc and Cybernetic Data Products Corp.
