General Dynamics unveils rugged notebook

General Dynamics subsidiary General Dynamics Itronix has released a rugged notebook based on its VR-2 platform.

It said the Itronix GD6000 notebook includes an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor, 120GB storage, up to 4GB RAM, integrated GPS, and wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi, cellular data, and Bluetooth.

The notebook meets MIL-STD 810F standards for temperature range, vibration resistance, dust ingress protection, and humidity. Other features include a 13.3 DynaVue touch screen for increased outdoor viewability, a spill-resistant keyboard, and a shock-mounted hard drive and display.

The GD6000 offers security features including TPM 1.2 Network Security Standard, integrated fingerprint reader, integrated CAC (Smart Card) reader, removable hard drive, slot for computer security lock and password startup configurations.

Based in Spokane Valley, Washington, General Dynamics Itronix is a developer of wireless, rugged computing systems for mobile workers, offering a range of field computing systems including laptops, ultra mobile notebook PCs and tablet PCs. 

John Schneider, business unit director at General Dynamics Itronix, said: The GD6000 is our next generation of rugged notebook, designed especially for a mobile workforce. It meets their very specific requirements for durability and superior performance, while supporting increasingly complex applications.

The notebook costs $3,500.
