Middlebury, Connecticut-based General DataComm Industries Inc warns that it expects revenues for its fiscal third quarter to June 30 to be about $48m with a resultant net loss of more than $10m. The company lost $502,000 on revenues of $55m in the same quarter last year. The data communications equipment company further warns that the numbers are estimated and subject to change until completion of the normal closing cycle as well as management and independent auditors completing their customary review processes. Asynchronous Transfer Mode sales in the quarter were negatively impacted by delayed completion of new features, the primary one being the conversion of Ethernet traffic to Asynchronous Mode cells at Ethernet wire speed, the company said. This feature was scheduled for completion early in the quarter, but we encountered problems with the performance of a chip used in the circuitry. We have been working with this manufacturer to solve this problem. However, our major customers, who we had expected to place additional ATM switch orders in the quarter, have held those orders pending delivery and testing of this capability. We now have delivered this feature for testing and evaluation by our key customers, it said, suggesting that things should now quickly improve.
