GENERAL DATACOMM LEADS IN EUROPEAN ATM

By CBR Staff Writer

General Datacomm Industries Inc, Middlebutu, Connecticut, reckons it’s now the largest supplier of asyncronous transfer mode products and services to European PTTs, having secured three of the larger European network operators as its customers: Deutsche Telekom AG, France Telecom and PTT Telecom in Holland have all upgraded and added further GDX Apex switches onto their networks following trials. General Datacomm also has the Swiss PTT, Telefonica de Espana SA and Telia AB of Sweden among its customers, and is involved in the James Project, a scheme set up by 18 European network operators to research the use of ATM for broadband networks.
