Middlebury, Connecticut-based General DataComm Industries Inc and Digital Equipment Corp have announced a sales, marketing and technical agreement to offer users integrated Asynchronous Transfer Mode networks. The two companies say they will work together on technologies such as the General DataComm development of ATM Frame UNI, User-to-Network Interface and DEC’s development of Fibre Distributed Data Interface. Additionally, they will work together to study the interaction of congestion management schemes within the local and wide area network using Available Bit Rate. To this end, DEC will grant a licence to General DataComm to use its congestion avoidance patent and flow-control technology.
