GENERAL DATACOM WINS CONTRACT FROM ALLIANCE & LEICESTER BUILDING SOCIETY

By CBR Staff Writer

Wokingham, Berkshire-based General Datacomm Ltd has won a UKP1.5m contract from the Alliance & Leicester Building Society to install a time division multiplexer-based data communications network linking 410 of the building society’s UK offices: the deal, to which General Datacomm says it beat both British Telecommunications Plc and Infotron, will provide Megastream links between computer centres in Hove and Oadby, and a combination of 2Mbps and 64Kbps circuits between London, Leicester, Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh; for office automation, electronic mail and file transfer applications, Alliance & Leicester has chosen an X25 packet switching network over the time division multiplexer backbone.
