GemSoft Corp, Nashua, New Hampshire developer of personal computer video games has become an early software developer supporting Yamaha Corp’s new three-dimensional Rendering Polygon Accelerator chip, the Yamaha YGV611 (CI No 2,582), with GemSoft Fighter Wing. The air combat game enables the user to compete solo, or against other players in networked competition. Combining real-time generation of fly-by landscapes with actual combat footage, Fighter Wing heightens the cockpit experience with both network chatting and program-generated chatter. Fighter Wing’s minimum system requirements are a 33MHz 80386 CPU, DOS 5.0, 4Mb memory, VGA graphics board and Sound Blaster board. The GemSoft 3D Engine enables the computer to manifest the end user’s three-dimensional representations fully. The Yamaha YGV611 delivers high-speed three dimensional graphics rendering for the personal computer. It has texture mapping capability of 210K polygons per second and performs Gouraud shading, hidden surface removal, video capture, and Bit Block Transfer. The frame buffer interface is 128 bits wide (64-bit interleaved) and its 16- or 32-bit wide host bus interface operates at up to 33MHz.
