GEC TO ACQUIRE OFFICE SYSTEMS COMPANY?

By CBR Staff Writer

A couple of the Sunday papers picked up on gossip that GEC Plc is on the brink of a $100m to $200m office systems acquisition in the US to complement its rather invisible A B Dick business in Chicago: any acquisition is likely to further Dick’s position in the reprographic business – its most attractive property is ink jet printing technology used mainly in industrial and retail marking applications – and the suggestion here is that the move may take the company into the desk-top publishing arena; one company that is definitely for sale and might fit the bill is NBI Inc, Boulder, Colorado, but CPT Corp in Minneapolis scarcely looks stable, and there are several small companies exploiting new printer technologies that are also possibilities.
