The increasing pace of sales by Thorn EMI Plc of electronic businesses it no longer wants seems to have persuaded GEC Plc that if it holds out much longer in the hope of paying the least possible money, it runs the risk of losing the bits it does want to another company: according to the Times, GEC has reopened talks on buying Thorn EMI’s defence businesses almost a year after it pulled out of negotiations because a price could not be agreed; the Times quoted sources as saying that GEC last week contacted Thorn, which it said was already talking to three other potential buyers of its defence sensors, microwave and automation operations businesses and named one of the others as Racal Electronics Plc.
