GEC Plessey Telecommunications’ Reliance unit has been awarded a UKP2.6m contract to supply the Nottingham Health Authority with a PABX-based communication system. A total of five ISLXs will be connected to support a 7,000 extension network linking the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital with the General, Highbury and Basford hospitals. The network will deliver converged speech and data to every desktop and importantly, reduce the long delays suffered by callers who ring in at present. By linking the disparate telephone networks, any doctor with access to the network will be able to obtain patient information from the Authority’s main computers. The system is scheduled to go live next spring.
