Serves them right for trying to reduce the name to anonymous initials: GEC Plessey Telecommunications likes to call itself GPT, and it will not have escaped the notice of francophone devotees of schoolboy humour that GPT, when rendered in French, comes out as something most unfortunate – and according to the Sunday Telegraph, the folks Alcatel NV in Paris have been chortling at their British arch-rival’s self-inflicted social gaffe.
