GEC PLESSEY BRINGS IN NEW SOFTWARE FOR SIEMENS’ HICOM

By CBR Staff Writer

GEC Plessey Telecommunications Ltd’s GPT Communications Systems Ltd has launched a new release of the software for Siemens AG’s Hicom 300 PABX. The new Hicom 300 3.3 software adds features such as route optimisation, enhanced call distribution and increased call messaging options. The number of monitoring positions has been quadrupled to 1,000, and the user interface has been improved to give audible acknowledgement tones and spoken announcements. Call logging has also been updated. In fact the Hicom is so good, says the company, that China is using the office switching system in some rural areas as a public exchange. So how does the new Hicom fit in with the company’s strategy for its market-leading iSDX exchange? Well, according to GPT, it has been designed from the ground up as a data system, rather than – like the iSDX – as a voice switch with data capabilities added later. And, unlike the iSDX, it’s designed for international corporate networks, rather than being optimised for use in the UK.
