Jersey has replaced its old exchanges for System X equipment in a contract with GEC Telecommunications worth UKP15m. GEC chairman James Prior officially announced the changeover last week. The exchange will provide 25,000 subscriber lines through the five exchange areas in Jersey. Some 10,000 lines are in operation now in the island’s central exchange; local digital equipment is being installed at both the central and southern exchange areas.
