GEC HAS JOINT VENTURE WITH MAATSCHAPPIG VAN BERKEL PATENTS

By CBR Staff Writer

GEC Plc suddenly finds it likes joint ventures again, and following its medical agreement with Philips, is to inject UKP6m into another Dutch company, Maatschappig van Berkel Patents MD in return for 30.6% of the equity and an option to acquire a majority interest in the weighing and food processing machine maker: as part of the deal, GEC’s UKP60m-a-year W & T Avery Ltd subsidiary will provide Berkel with its range of weighing machines and electronic-point-of-sale products terminals for distribution throughout Western Europe and the US; Amsterdam-quoted Berkel did UKP160m sales in 1986.
