GEC Computer Services Ltd has bought up VIA/SmartTest, one of the Existing Systems Workbench range of re-engineering products distributed in the UK by Hitchin, Hertfordshire-based Software Generation Ltd: it will be used to test IBM mainframe-based systems that are being re-engineered, to prove that functionality of each application has not been impaired; VIA/SmartTest is an intelligent software tool that can analyse and ‘understand’ program logic and data relationships, it helps identify how and what to test and simplifies the multiplicity of tasks that make up a testing plan; Software Generation is the UK distributor for the Existing Systems Workbench family of products from Viasoft Inc of Phoenix, Arizona; both companies are bashful about the money that has changed hands but the Viasoft portfolio is priced at an average of UKP150,000 for an MVS mainframe version under the ISPF user interface.
