General Electric Co Inc’s GE Capital finance arm has changed the name of its Decimus Corp computer leasing subsidiary to GE Capital Computer Leasing to add a heightened awareness of its business focus and of the commitment by GE Capital to its leadership position. According to GE, computer leasing is a $25,000m-a-year industry in the US and is the single largest segment of the equipment-leasing industry. As with most computer leasing companies, GE Capital Computer Leasing, headquartered in San Francisco, leases new and used mainframes and peripherals and also buys and sells used equipment. It claims $700m of assets under management, with most of its portfolio coming from IBM Corp, Amdahl Corp and Hitachi Data Systems. Formed in 1969 by BankAmerica Corp, it has been part of the GE Capital empire since 1985 and claims to be one of the Big Three alongside IBM Credit Corp and Comdisco Inc.
