Under the slogan non-threatening facilities management Gatton Synthesis Ltd, the Redhill, Surrey-based system house arm of the Gatton Consulting Group has launched a new support service for data processing departments that relieves in-house professionals from the onerous duties of application support. This then leaves data processing managers free to plough their resources into new areas safe in the knowledge that the drudge of data processing is being completed effectively and up to 40% less expensively than can be done internally. Leastways so says Mike Anthony, chief executive of Gatton Synthesis. He thinks that the Systems Application Maintenance service Gatton is offering has far more appeal than traditional facilities management where users contract a company to take control and provide their ongoing information technology requirements. The SAM service, however, leaves the data processing manager in control of his empire, offering a quarterly or annual rolling service for application maintenance. The service ranges from controlling a 500-user network for a blue-chip company to providing support for a small business’s network of personal computers. The user is given a price for the SAM service either based on a monthly fee or based on a retainer plus time and materials.
