GATEWAY MUM ON Q2, PLANS NETWORK PC, SERVERS

By CBR Staff Writer

Shares in Gateway 2000 Inc lost $1.375 on Wednesday amid speculation that the PC maker would issue a warning on earnings for the current quarter on Thursday. Gateway’s chief financial officer Dave McKittrick, speaking at the Paine Webber Technology Conference in New York, wouldn’t comment on the company’s performance, according to a Reuters report, but instead discussed the company’s plans for a $900 network PC in July and its eventual – most likely 1998 – foray into the world of servers. He said Gateway has made a definite decision to get into the server market.
