Gateway 2000 Inc, North Sioux City, South Dakota will open a manufacturing plant in Malacca, Malaysia next month to make the company’s desktop computers. The plant, the company’s second largest, will initially employ 200 but could easily expand if demand levels warrant, Gateway said. Details of the cost of the 180,000 square foot plant, its fourth major facility, were not disclosed. A fifth plant is under construction in Hampton, Virginia.
