Microsoft Corp chairman Bill Gates has finally delivered his verdict on The Pirates of Silicon Valley a soap opera about Silicon Valley that’s been showing on US TV screens recently. “Maybe I’m too close to the situation, but that was not history,” said Gates at Dell Computer Corp’s DirectConnect conference in Texas on Wednesday. The business was fun and exciting. I hope someday someone can capture that exciting time more accurately. In the highly dramatized series, produced by Turner Network Television, Gates comes across as a ruthless schemer, clashing with Apple Computer Inc’s Steve Jobs during the early days of the PC. Gates was portrayed by Anthony Michael Hall, but Jobs, played by ER actor and Jobs lookalike Noah Wyle, was the main character – so perhaps that’s part of the problem. I concentrated on the personal elements – the ambition, the greed, the envy, the cunning, Wyle said of his performance at the time.
