Gandalf Technologies Inc has enhanced its StarPort local area network system that gives dumb terminals access to MS-DOS applications: StarPort now provides enhanced centralised system and file management for users so that organisations no longer have to buy in computing power for every desk, but can buy it once and distribute it throughout the local area via the network without affecting processing power; StarPort runs under the Novell Inc Netware operating system, and within the integral 80286 or 80386-based file server there is, respectively, 133Mb or 600Mb of disk storage, 60Mb tape streamer backup, two to four printer interfaces with spoolers, and a network management console with keyboard; bridges to other local networks, and gateways to IBM hosts are also available.
