Despite his initiative in creating the internet Vice President Al Gore seems to be getting somewhat boxed out in the race for Silicon Valley campaign funds. Gore, who was widely-criticized for his boastful and largely unfounded comment, pocketed about $400,000 on a recent swing through the Valley. Meanwhile, Democratic rival Bill Bradley, the former basketball star and US senator, bagged $1m in a similar fund raiser this week.

Veteran technology venture capitalist John Hummer, himself a former NBA player, was one of the co-hosts of the million-dollar event and told The Wall Street Journal that Venture guys are very good at separating what is real from what’s not. They invest in things that are real, and it’s clear to them that Bradley’s for real. Maybe Gore should pull off the information superhighway he helped to pave and work on his jump shot.
