FULCRUM BUYS CRL’S INFORMATION CLUSTERING TECHNOLOGY

By CBR Staff Writer

Information search company Fulcrum Technologies Inc is buying clustering technology from Central Research Laboratories Ltd, formerly the corporate research arm of Thorn EMI, now EMI Group Plc. The clustering technology, in conjunction with Fulcrum’s software, has already been used by the European Space Agency for military intelligence gathering. Fulcrum is paying 650,000 pounds to buy the technology. Clustering enables documents to be analyzed and automatically categorized based on their content in relation to other documents. Central Research uses neural network techniques, and will be integrated into Fulcrum’s Knowledge Network in the first half of next year.
