Heavy speculation has surrounded the US common vendor ISDN-1 standard announced last year – viewed as a do-or-die attempt to standardise US ISDN switch interfaces – but it has received a boost with the news that Fujitsu Network Switching has installed the first compliant US public telephone exchange system. It is using its Fetex-150 All-Bandwith switching system as part of the US West Inc Compass application field trial. Installation at a Rochester, Minnesota exchange has just been completed and the switch is being used in Compass Project 1 to provide narrowband ISDN. This is to test an advanced multimedia property application being offered by Moore Data Management Services of Minneapolis.
