A Fujitsu Ltd plant in Miyazaki, Kyushu, is to mass produce 42- inch color plasma display panels. The ImageSite product is the world’s first commercial large-screen color plasma display panel, and is expected to be used in the next generation of television screens. Initial production of the screens began in October; a new line set up in the plant has the capacity to produce 10,000 units per month. ImageSite will target users in the two market segments of television and personal computer monitors. Grundig AG and Philips Electronics NV of the Netherlands and Fujitsu General of Japan have announced TV or home theater products incorporating Fujitsu’s ImageSite technology. Through its mass production, Fujitsu is seeking to offer large-screen color plasma display panel televisions at a price of $90 per inch by the year 2000, when it reckons that it will be producing around 100,000 units per month.
