There’s a strong sense of sibling rivalry between the Japanese consumer and professional electronics companies. Sony Corp bought a record company so Matsushita Electric Industrial Co had to spend and lose a fortune buying MCA Inc. But its woes have not deterred Fujitsu Ltd: it is to create a record label that will record, manufacture and sell compact disks. It won’t comment on what kind of music the label will major on, where they will be marketed, how much the company will invest in the venture or when the operation will begin but the disks will be distributed through Japan’s King Records Co.
