FUJITSU TEAMS WITH JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION

By CBR Staff Writer

Fujitsu Ltd has teamed with the Japan Racing Association to develop a Personal Access Terminal for home betting on horse-racing: the terminal, called a HomeMaster, will be sold to the members of the Japan Racing Association’s PAT betting group and incorporates a teletext receiver, a TV tuner and a modem, and is used by connecting it to the family TV and telephone line; the runners and riders information is received via the modem and displayed on the TV screen; bets can be placed using a remote-control numeric keypad, and the punter can settle back and watch the race on TV; usage of the system is controlled via a Pat-Card which is inserted in the units for input of the user’s security number; Fujitsu looks to sell 50,000 terminals a year.
