Fujitsu Ltd and Fujitsu Microelectronics Inc announced yesterday that they have developed double data rate synchronous DRAMs and modules, which promise to double the data transfer rates of existing SDRAMs. The new devices and modules promise data transfer speeds of up to 200Mb per second for the device and 1.6Gb per second for the module. The DDRS DRAMs are aimed at a wide range of machines – from digital TVs and PCs through to mainframes, by way of servers – which run applications requiring high bandwidth. Fujitsu will start shipping samples of the products next month before pushing into mass production in February.
